Toy Design-Financial Constraints & AI

Task Instructions Frame

Task Instructions

You are tasked with designing a toy that can be used by a child aged 5–11.
You have a budget of €5 to spend on items for your design. Below, you’ll find 10 shapes with assigned prices. Select items without exceeding the €5 limit. If your selection goes over, keep track and adjust accordingly. If you have selected a shape and want to deselect it before proceeding, simply click on it again. Once you proceed, you cannot change your selection. You may draw your idea on the provided digital canvas. Please note that there is no function to drag the shapes or erase your drawing, and refreshing your browser is not allowed, ensuring that your progress is preserved. You can scroll down and use more space if you want. There is no minimum time limit, but the maximum time allowed is 44 minutes. To submit your drawing, you will have to confirm that your items are within the budget.

To support you in completing this task, you are expected to engage iteratively with the GPT-4o chatbot on your left. Engaging with the chatbot is an essential part of this study, as it provides insights into how AI can influence creative processes. While it is up to you how much of its input you incorporate into your final design, you must engage with the chatbot at least five times during this task. This interaction should not be random but should involve thoughtful consideration of how the AI can inform or inspire your design choices. After the task, please rate each item on the questionnaire thoughtfully, based on your experience and final design. The ratings should reflect your judgment and not be random. Your rating will be critical to the study, and inconsistency in your ratings may hinder the accuracy of the results. Click the chatbot icon on the left to open the chat interface. When finished, click the X to close it.
